By our count, this is the eleventh time that the SPC has brought together our members in the fall for an exclusive event centered around education, collaboration, and networking. The first “SPC Fall Meeting” in 2005 really was a meeting, with probably no more than 40 attendees participating in tight-knit discussions focused on a newfangled buzzword of “sustainable packaging.” It’s safe to say that sustainable packaging turned out to be much more than an ephemeral buzzword, and the SPC Fall Meeting has become much more than a meeting.
In 2015 we will celebrate the second SPC Advance. Changing the name from “Fall Meeting” reflects the positive growth of the event. With 200+ attendees, it’s hard to say that the atmosphere is that of a meeting. SPC Advance will always foster hands-on collaborative work in facilitated discussions and workshops, but the larger audience presents an opportunity for conference-like offerings, and we’re proud to feature top-notch speakers giving presentations and engaging in Q&A with the audience. Attend our big welcome reception on Tuesday, October 6th, and experience for yourself the magnitude of SPC Advance.
However we’re also proud of our work to preserve the intimate atmosphere of the event. There are plenty of opportunities to meet and network with your fellow SPC members on a small scale — for example, participating in our ad hoc small group dinners we call Dinner & Dialogue — just as there are opportunities to participate in large-scale conversations. A central theme of this year’s SPC Advance is dialogue. The event will feature a number of sessions on the dialogue happening on a national and global level including policymaking trends and material selections, and there will be numerous opportunities for you to participate in dialogue and react to the presentations in our facilitated discussions.
SPC Advance is your opportunity to take part in the conversations that shape the direction of our industry and of the SPC. Whether you participate in one of the SPC Industry Leadership Committee working sessions on Tuesday or provide your voice at the facilitated all-member discussions on Thursday, you’ll find that this year’s SPC Advance is all about engagement. It’s your Coalition. SPC Advance gives you the information and the platform to collectively advance all of our work.
