New attendees coming to their first SPC Advance have a lot to look forward to this October. The very first event of the conference will be The Essentials of Sustainable Packaging session hosted by SPC Senior Manager Anne Bedarf and SPC Project Manager Danielle Peacock. This educational seminar provides an introduction to the main concepts of sustainable packaging in an exciting half-day format that is perfect for creating a foundation for the rest of the conference. On Tuesday night, there will be an Introduction to The Sustainable Packaging Coalition reception for first time attendees. The reception will be an opportunity to meet the SPC staff and member-elected SPC Executive Committee and network with other members, both new and longstanding, in an intimate setting.

Networking and learning opportunities at SPC Advance aren’t confined to the conference rooms, attendees have the opportunity to go on a tour of a Charlotte-area MRF (material recovery facility) or a tour of a family-owned forest. Touring a MRF is the best way to understand how materials get sorted for recycling. The family-owned forest tour will be special to SPC Advance 2015. Attendees will learn about how the North Carolina family manages their forest using practices aimed at sustaining a healthy and productive source of fiber. Both tours also encourage questions from attendees to maximize learning opportunities.

SPC Advance is not another conference where talking heads dominate the conversation. Our mission at the SPC is to bring together businesses, educational institutions, and government agencies to collectively broaden the understanding of packaging sustainability and develop meaningful improvements for packaging solutions. On day 3 of SPC Advance, first time attendees are especially encouraged to attend our “Advancing the Agenda For Sustainable Packaging: SPC Member Working Session.” The working session will be a closed-door meeting where members will discuss challenges and opportunities in their work, while sharing ideas for new SPC initiatives.

SPC Advance 2015 is going to be an exciting event for new SPC members. We look forward to seeing you there!
